The popular Committees for Refugees in Gaza appeals to António Guterres to rescue Gaza from two dangerous pandemics

Gaza, (Drah)--

The Popular Committees for Palestinian Refugees (PCR) in Gaza appealed today, Monday, 24th, 2020, to Mr. António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations to intervene to save the refugee camps of the Gaza Strip from the Israeli siege and the Corona pandemic.

The PCR expressed its concerns over the recent Israeli escalation against the Gaza Strip, which led to many casualties and destruction across several areas in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The PCR said that:" today's decision by the Israeli occupation authorities to prevent the entry of all goods into the Gaza Strip aims at tightening the blockade policy imposed on the Gaza Strip for nearly 15 years".

"Decision to prevent the entry of fuel to the only power plant will exacerbate the humanitarian crises of the population, especially residents of refugee camps and residents of quarantine centers", the PCR warned.

The PCR also warned that the ventilators have stopped serving dozens of quarantined refugees, which threatens more casualties, raising the risk of the spread of the epidemic in the Gaza Strip, the most densely populated place in the world inhabited by more than two million people, including more than 1.4 million refugees.

The PCR asserted that the recent measures imposed by the Israeli occupation contradict the most essential human rights laws stipulated in the United Nations Charters.

The PCR appealed to Mr. António Guterres to do his humanitarian and international role to save the lives of thousands of people from the Corona pandemic and the pandemic of occupation and to work immediately to end this siege imposed on two million people 15 years ago.

The letter of the PCR to Mr. António Guterres came as follows:

Gaza, 24th August, 2020

His Excellency Mr. António Guterres

Secretary-General

United Nations

New York

Your Excellency,

Today's decision by the Israeli occupation authorities to prevent the entry of all goods into the Gaza Strip aims at tightening the blockade policy imposed on the Gaza Strip for nearly 15 years, especially after its previous decision to prevent the entry of fuel to the only power plant, the thing that exacerbates the humanitarian crises of the population, especially residents of refugee camps and residents of quarantine centers, as access to the continuation of the daily life and living of Palestinian citizens decreased.

The information available to us indicates that the ventilators have stopped serving dozens of quarantined refugees, which threatens more casualties, raising the risk of the spread of the epidemic in the Gaza Strip, the most densely populated place in the world inhabited by more than two million people, including more than 1.4 million refugees. Indeed, this contradicts the most essential human rights laws stipulated in the United Nations Charters.

These worsening humanitarian crises coincide with the escalation of the occupation forces' bombing operations by warplanes, artillery, and warships across the Strip, especially in the vicinity of refugee camps and quarantine centers, using destructive and terrifying weapons that cause a state of panic and fear among the residents of the camps and quarantine centers.

Accordingly, we appeal to Your Excellency to urgently and quickly intervene to rescue the quarantined from the fall of the occupation shells and rockets near their places of residence, which may push the quarantined patients to leave the quarantine places to flee with their lives from the occupation fire, which will have dire consequences for the spread of the epidemic among about two million people, crammed into the most densely populated spot in the world, which may pose a threat to the spread of the epidemic in Gaza.

Your Excellency, the Popular Committees for Refugees address you with this urgent appeal to do your humanitarian and international role to save the lives of thousands of people from the Corona pandemic and occupation, and to work immediately to end this siege imposed on two million people 15 years ago, in violation of the most basic human rights standards, as well as it violates the international laws that guarantee the right of refugees to live in dignity until they return to their homes which they were displaced from.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of our highest consideration.
