Gaza, (DRAH.ps)-- The Commissioner-General of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Filippo Grandi has hailed the support and initiatives of the United Arab Emirates under the leadership of the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to the Palestinians.
He also commended the efforts and role of the UAE Red Crescent Authority.
This came in a statement distributed by the UNRWA, after signing an agreement with the UAE Red Crescent Authority for building eight model schools in the Gaza Strip at a total cost of Dh58 million.
Grandi stressed that the agreement highlights UAE Red Crescent’s firm support in its ongoing commitment to help UNRWA and improving the lives of Palestinian refugees in Gaza.
“I would like to express my profound gratitude to Shaikh Khalifa, the UAE Red Crescent Authority and the Emirati people for this important contribution,” he added.
The agreement was signed by the Secretary-General of the UAE Red Crescent Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi and UNRWA Deputy Commissioner Peter Ford. The schools will be built in areas that desperately need educational services.
