Sit-in in Nablus in protest at UNRWA cuts

Gaza,(DRAH.ps)-- Dozens of UNRWA employees and Palestinian citizens on Tuesday staged a sit-in in Nablus city to protest the Agency's decision to lay off a batch of teachers and cut its services to Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank.

The participants raised banners expressing their rejection of the UNRWA decision to reduce its services to Palestinian refugees and dismiss about 158 teachers of diploma degree holders.

Spokesman for the National Committee Against UNRWA Cuts Emad Shtewi said that the cuts in health and education services are part of US conspiracy against the Palestinian refugees issue.

Shtewi stressed in a speech that dismissing teachers is a crime and disregard for the services they provided to the UNRWA and its students, noting that 14 of the teachers dismissed are residents of Balata refugee camp.

He called for escalating protests to pressure the UN Agency to backtrack on its arbitrary decisions.
